Camera Manufacturer ARRI unveils the Alexa 265, a new 65-millimeter cinema camera model.

Introducing the Next-Generation Alexa 265 from MUNICH-ARRI

The film industry has a new addition to its roster, the Alexa 265, a compact and powerful 65-millimeter camera from MUNICH-ARRI. Weighing just 7.27 pounds (3.3 kilograms), the Alexa 265 is less than one-third the weight of its predecessor, the Alexa 65, making it a perfect choice for various filming scenarios.

The Alexa 265 boasts a revised 65-mm sensor, which significantly increases dynamic range from 14 to 15 stops and sensitivity from 3200 to 6400 EI (ISO/ASA). This enhancement results in improved image quality with superior low-light performance. The camera also features ARRI's new-generation LogC4 workflow, ensuring a wide latitude for post-production colour grading.

One of the standout features of the Alexa 265 is its compatibility with Codex's high-density encoding technology, Codex HDE. This technology reduces file sizes by up to 40% without compromising image quality, making data management more efficient on set.

The Alexa 265 shares the same camera body as the compact Alexa 35 and retains the LogC4 workflow, REVEAL Color Science, and compatibility with the Alexa 35 accessory set. On-set monitors can display SDR, HDR, or both in HD or ultra HD, providing flexibility for various production needs.

The Alexa 265's small size and weight allow it to be used in ways never imagined for 65 mm, such as on drones, stabilizers, and space-constrained locations. To further enhance its versatility, the camera offers a new filter system.

ARRI is also updating its SDK to ensure Alexa 265 images are compatible with major third-party software tools. Additionally, the camera supports 3D Lookup Tables (LUTs) introduced for ALEXA 35.

The Alexa 265, a new 65-millimeter camera model, is now available for sale. For more information about the Alexa 265, please visit ARRI's website. Standard drive readers and docks can be used with the Alexa 265, which records ARRIRAW in-camera to Codex Compact Drives.

In summary, the Alexa 265 is a powerful and versatile 65-millimeter camera that offers improved image quality, compact size, and efficient data management. Its innovative features make it an ideal choice for a wide range of filming scenarios.
