California officials expose fake Scratch Card scam targeting Philippine players
The California Gambling Control Commission has warned the public about a fraudulent gambling scheme operating under its name. The scam, known as California Scratch Card, targeted players in the Philippines with false promises of winnings tied to fake administrative fees.
The illegal operation used the Commission’s official name and logo to trick victims. It sent fake notices demanding 'Administrative Processing Fees' in Philippine pesos before releasing supposed winnings. These fees do not exist in the Commission’s actual procedures.
The Commission confirmed it has never licensed California Scratch Card and has no connection to the scheme. Authorities stressed that the fraud primarily affected citizens in the Philippines, not the United States. Such scams often steal deposits, block withdrawals, or demand payments from winners before disappearing with the funds. The Commission advised anyone with doubts about gaming-related communications to verify directly with the Bureau of Gambling Control or the Commission itself. The agency is now exploring all legal options to stop the fraud and protect both its reputation and consumers.
The Commission reiterated that it does not charge administrative fees for prize claims. Victims of the scam have been urged to report the activity immediately. Officials continue to monitor the situation to prevent further fraud under the agency’s name.
