BYD showcases monumental off-road testing facility boasting a world-record setting indoor sand dune
BYD's Zhengzhou All-Terrain Circuit: A Revolutionary Driving Playground
In the heart of China, the city of Zhengzhou is home to one of the most radical driving playgrounds on the planet. The Zhengzhou All-Terrain Circuit, built by automotive giant BYD, is a testament to the company's commitment to innovation and entertainment.
Spanning over 15,300m2, the dynamic paddock at the circuit offers a variety of challenges, designed to push electric vehicles and their drivers to extremes. The circuit features eight insane experience zones, including a 1.758km racetrack with nine corners and a 550-meter straight for acceleration blasts.
For off-road enthusiasts, the circuit offers 27 challenges catering to both beginners and hardcore off-roaders. Urban SUVs can participate in these challenges, testing their capabilities on various terrains. One such challenge is the water-crossing pool, specifically designed for BYD's YANGWANG U8 SUV, which can drive, steer, and reverse while fully submerged in water.
The circuit also boasts the largest dune-climbing structure, an indoor sand dune replicating the Alxa Desert. With a 26.9-meter vertical drop and a 28-degree slope, this structure is recognized by Guinness as the largest of its kind.
The circuit's pièce de résistance is the Low Friction Circle, China's first 44-meter drift ring. Constructed from 30,000 basalt bricks and covered in a slick water layer, this ring allows drivers to perform ice-like drifts with surgical precision, thanks to BYD's lightning-fast electronic control systems.
BYD's Zhengzhou site embodies its "Technology for All" philosophy, fusing entertainment with innovation while building a new culture around NEVs. The circuit even includes a camping zone, positioning it as a destination, not just a test track.
Two more equally ambitious circuits are planned for China, following the model set by the Zhengzhou All-Terrain Circuit. This network of circuits aims to revolutionise the way electric vehicles are tested and experienced, offering a unique blend of excitement and innovation.
The Kick-Plate zone at the circuit simulates ice-road disasters, sending vehicles into controlled skids across a wet cement surface. This zone, along with the rest of the circuit, demonstrates BYD's commitment to creating a challenging and exhilarating environment for both drivers and spectators alike.
The Zhengzhou All-Terrain Circuit by BYD is more than just a test track; it's a playground for the future of electric vehicle technology. It's a place where innovation meets entertainment, and where the limits of what electric vehicles can achieve are continually being pushed.
