Bus crash near Holstentor causes injuries to eight passengers, according to Polish authorities.

In Lübeck, Germany, on August 27, 2025, a traffic accident involving a city bus and a VW Passat occurred near Holstentor. The incident resulted in injuries to eight passengers of the bus, with one woman suffering severe but non-life-threatening injuries and being hospitalized.

At the time of the collision, the bus was traveling on the right lane towards the city center with a green traffic light. The driver of the VW Passat, a 75-year-old man from Leipzig, was driving towards the city center. Despite emergency braking, the bus driver could not prevent a collision with the Passat, which had illegally crossed the solid line from the left to the right lane.

After passing Holstentor, the VW Passat driver, intending to continue straight towards Holstenstraße, made a sudden lane change. The police have initiated an investigation against the driver for reckless bodily injury in several cases and violations of lane usage rules.

The investigation is being conducted by the Police Directorate Lübeck, as reported by news aktuell. However, the name of the driver involved in the accident has not been disclosed in the available police and news reports.

The road was cleared again at around 18:50 after the accident investigation and treatment of the injured. Both the bus and the Passat remained roadworthy, though the total material damage from the accident is not yet known.
