Bus Accident at Holstentor Leaves Eight Passengers Injured, According to Polish Police Reports

In the heart of Lübeck, Germany, on August 27, 2025, a traffic accident involving a city bus and a gray VW Passat occurred at Holstentor. The incident, which caused a stir in the city, has prompted an investigation by the Police Directorate Lübeck.

According to the police, a 75-year-old man from Leipzig was driving the VW Passat. The man drove past Holstentor and positioned his car in the left-turn lane at Holstentorbrücke, but he did not intend to turn left. Instead, he illegally crossed the solid line from the left to the right lane, intending to continue straight towards Holstenstraße.

The bus, which was traveling on the right lane in the direction of the city center, with the light showing green, could not avoid the sudden lane change. The bus driver performed emergency braking, but a collision occurred nonetheless.

As a result of the collision, 8 passengers of the bus were injured, with one woman suffering severe injuries and being taken to a hospital. Fortunately, neither the driver of the VW Passat, his passenger, nor the bus driver were injured.

The investigation is due to suspicion of negligent bodily harm in several cases and violations of traffic regulations regarding lane usage. The police have initiated the investigation against the driver of the VW Passat. The investigation also includes violations of the regulations on the use of lanes.
