The Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) and Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) have introduced a new ticketing system for their passengers, the FAIRTIQ app. This innovative solution aims to simplify ticketing for occasional users and provide a more seamless travel experience.

The idea for this check-in/check-out system came from the VVO, as part of their initiative to make ticketing easier for casual users. With FAIRTIQ, passengers can check-in and check-out with a simple swipe, and the app will automatically allocate the cheapest daily ticket for their travels.

Over 52,000 passengers have downloaded the FAIRTIQ app, with over 5,000 using it regularly. The app covers the entire VVO area, making it a convenient option for passengers travelling across the region.

One of the key features of FAIRTIQ is its ability to automatically calculate the cheaper day ticket price for multiple single trips. This means passengers no longer need to worry about selecting the right ticket before their journey, as the app will take care of it for them.

Another advantage of the FAIRTIQ app is that it eliminates the need for cash. Passengers can board a train, tram, or bus, check-in with a swipe in the app, and have a valid ticket for the entire VVO area. Upon arrival, passengers swipe again in the app to end the fare recording.

The app also uses smartphone sensors to remind passengers to check out at the end of their journey, ensuring they are only charged for the time they have spent travelling.

For passengers who travel a round trip in a single tariff zone in Dresden, there is no need to worry about an additional trip later. The app determines the route and calculates the appropriate ticket.

Bike carriage is also possible with a simple swipe in the FAIRTIQ app. New users will receive a €3 starting credit, and passengers who refer new users to FAIRTIQ between September 1 and November 30 will receive a €3 credit as well.

With the introduction of the FAIRTIQ app, passengers in the VVO and DVB can now travel cashless, have the right ticket at hand, and enjoy a more streamlined ticketing experience.
