BUFT's cultural festival unites 12 universities in Dhaka's biggest youth showcase

A vibrant national cultural festival took place at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) in Dhaka on Sunday. Organised by the university's cultural club, the event brought together students from 12 universities to compete in six creative categories.

The festival also featured live performances, a fashion show, and interactive stalls, offering a platform for youth talent and cultural exchange.

The centrepiece of the festival was the Inter-University Cultural Competition, where 18 awards were handed out across music, dance, drama, fine arts, creative writing, and recitation. American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) secured two wins—taking first place in both music and recitation. Jashore University of Science and Technology claimed the dance category, while the University of Dhaka (DU) triumphed in drama and creative writing. Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology won the fine arts section.

Beyond the competitions, the event showcased a diverse lineup of performances. Attendees enjoyed hip-hop routines, poetry readings, and a live concert by the popular band Highway. A fashion runway show, flash mobs, and food stalls added to the lively atmosphere. Faruque Hassan, chairman of the BUFT board of trustees, attended as the chief guest. He was joined by special guests Professor Ayub Nabi Khan, acting vice-chancellor of BUFT, and film artiste Shatabdi Wadud. The festival was presented by Twelve Clothing and sponsored by Sayor Restaurant, Essential Buy Sell, and Doel OTT, with support from partners including Mbrella, Styleway BD, and Promises Medical Limited.

The festival provided a rare opportunity for students from different universities to display their artistic skills. With no clear pattern of dominance in inter-university cultural events over recent years, this year's winners set a new benchmark. The event reinforced BUFT's role in fostering creativity and cultural dialogue among Bangladesh's youth.
