Brooklyn-based store, BKLYN Pairs, collaborates with Chelsea to offer a unique wine-cheese combination experience, featuring a new back label selection.
In the heart of Chelsea, a new venture has emerged, promising an exciting fusion of wine, cheese, spirits, and music. Husband-and-wife owners Patrick Watson and Michelle Pravda have opened Back Label Wine Merchants, a 3,000-square-foot space housed in a former Men's Warehouse location.
Back Label Wine Merchants stands out with its unique approach to wine categorisation. Instead of the traditional method, the wine selection is organised by the back label, focusing on specific growers, winemakers, geology, soil type, and certified biodynamic and organic wine producers. Among the wine selections are Finger Lakes' Ravines Wine Cellars, North Fork's One Woman Wines, and local distilleries such as Kings County Distillery, New York Distilling Company, Uncouth Vermouth, and Sorel Liqueur.
Just next door, Stinky BKLYN, the couple's newest venture, offers a complementary selection of cheese, wine, spirits, and beer. Stinky BKLYN boasts 10 beer taps, some dedicated to New York State breweries, Kombucha Brooklyn, and local ciders. It also taps smaller craft breweries from around the country, such as Bronx Brewery, Wandering Star, Hoppin' Frog Brewery, and Brooklyn Brewery.
Local studio musicians play ragtime and jazzy tunes on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons at both Back Label Wine Merchants and Stinky BKLYN, adding a delightful ambience to the establishments.
However, a quick search does not reveal any information about a company that has opened an additional location next to Back Label Wine Merchants specialising in cheese.
Marcy Franklin, a freelance writer with a strong interest in imbibing, has been published in various publications, including USA Today, The Daily Meal, The Braiser, The Drink Nation, Time Out New York, and 5280. Franklin's diverse palate has not shied away from a Coloradan craft beer, a whiskey cocktail, or a puppy.
Whether you're a wine connoisseur, a cheese aficionado, or simply looking for a unique and enjoyable evening out, Back Label Wine Merchants and Stinky BKLYN in Chelsea are worth a visit.
