Broadcasting organization Sky TV secures exclusive rights to air Supercars races for another four years
In a move that strengthens the local connection to the championship, Supercars has announced a new deal with Sky New Zealand, securing the broadcast rights for four seasons, from 2026 to 2029. This partnership extension is a testament to Supercars' commitment to New Zealand fans and its growth in a key market.
Sky's Head of Content Partnerships, Adam Crothers, stated that Supercars is a key part of their motorsport offering. The partnership, which has been in place for over a decade, will now see Supercars remain a core part of Sky's motorsport line-up, covering everything from Formula 1 and IndyCar to World Superbike.
Supercars CEO James Warburton expressed delight at extending their partnership with Sky, noting that the new deal reinforces Sky's robust motorsport coverage in New Zealand. Warburton also mentioned that the addition of a second New Zealand race in Christchurch from 2026 will further solidify this connection.
New Zealand has an incredibly passionate motorsport audience, according to Warburton. This is evident in the fact that twenty percent of Supercars' global fan base resides in New Zealand. The new deal ensures that Kiwi fans can watch every moment of Supercars action, wherever they are, until at least the end of 2028.
The Supercars Championship in New Zealand starting from the 2026 season will be held at more than one racing circuit, but the specific New Zealand tracks have not been identified yet. Two home races for Kiwi fans in the Supercars Championship is a significant change, according to Crothers.
The Supercars Championship has a rich history of producing New Zealand champions, including Shane van Gisbergen, Scott McLaughlin, Jim Richards, and Robbie Francevic. A new generation of Kiwi stars is making their mark in the Supercars Championship, with five Kiwi drivers currently competing.
As the 2025 Supercars competition is currently underway, with the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 taking place this weekend (8-10 August), fans can look forward to more exciting races in the coming years, thanks to this renewed partnership between Supercars and Sky New Zealand.
