Broadcasting Legend Steve Ahern Joins New York Festivals Radio Awards Advisory Board

Steve Ahern OAM, a veteran of the global audio and broadcasting industry, has joined the New York Festivals Radio Awards Advisory Board. His appointment brings over 40 years of experience in leadership, innovation, and media development to the prestigious event. The annual Storytellers Gala, held on May 22, will showcase the Radio Awards' winning entries in a virtual ceremony hosted from New York City's Central Park.

Ahern's career began as a presenter and producer at commercial and community radio stations across Australia. From there, he rose to key roles, including Manager of ABC Radio Sydney and Director of the ABU Media Academy in Kuala Lumpur. His influence extends beyond Australia, having served as a founding consultant for South Africa's National Electronic Media Institute (NEMISA) and Afghanistan's Nai Media Institute (NMI).

He is also the founding editor of radioinfo publications in Australia, Asia, and Africa. In addition, Ahern authored *Making Radio and Podcasts*, a widely recognised guide in the industry. His contributions were formally acknowledged in 2009 when he received the Order of Australia Medal for his work in media and training. The New York Festivals Radio Awards celebrate world-class storytellers from across the globe. Rose Anderson, Executive Vice President of New York Festivals, highlighted Ahern's appointment as a valuable addition. She noted his deep understanding of the audio content industry, calling it a '360-degree perspective' that will strengthen the Advisory Board.

Ahern's role on the Advisory Board follows decades of shaping media organisations worldwide. His expertise in radio, podcasting, and training will now support the New York Festivals in recognising outstanding storytelling. The upcoming Storytellers Gala on May 22 will continue the tradition of honouring creative excellence in audio.
