Those Who Want to Gift the Needy Have Many Options - Bremen’s Christmas campaigns bring joy to children and inmates alike
Every Advent, people in Bremen come together to support those in need. This year, donations have funded gifts for Ukrainian children and Christmas treats for prison inmates. Two major campaigns have made the season brighter for thousands.
The 'Christmas Miracles' initiative, run by Bremen Eins and Bremen Vier radio stations, collected nearly €246,000. The money will help disadvantaged children in Bremen and Bremerhaven. Local savings bank Sparkasse Bremen and other partners backed the 2021 drive.
Another project, 'Christmas is when someone thinks of you with love,' packed 10,000 cloth bags for Ukrainian children. Volunteers filled each one with small gifts to bring comfort during the holidays.
For inmates in Bremen, a separate effort ensured they received festive bags too. With a €10 donation, supporters provided sweets, coffee, and pastries to those spending Christmas behind bars.
The campaigns show how small contributions can make a big difference. Prisoners and children in need will now have a little more warmth this holiday season. Organisers say the generosity reflects the community’s spirit during Advent.
