Newcomers Boston Legacy Set to Debut in North American League
Boston Legacy, one of the teams set to join the North American League in 2026, will make their debut on the field in Foxborough. This expansion will see the league grow to 16 teams.
Jennifer van Dijk has been presented as the president of Boston Legacy, although no specific links to a CEO or board chairman could be found. Meanwhile, Filipa Pataño, a successful coach with Benfica since 2020, has taken over as the technical director of Boston Legacy in the North American women's football league. Pataño was formally presented as the coach of Legacy after receiving her work visa.
Pataño expressed her excitement about working with Boston Legacy's players and staff, and acknowledged the ambition and responsibility of leading a new project. She also expressed awareness of the difficulties of the North American League but believes in the process and expects positive results.
Pataño's achievements include winning the national pentachampionship and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League with Benfica. She was also nominated for the Ballon d'Or for best coach in 2024. Boston Legacy has also signed players such as Barbara Olivieri, Alba Caño, and Pataño herself.
Annie Karich was hired by Boston Legacy as their first footballer in July. The team's temporary home for 2026 will be Foxborough, with plans to move to the White Stadium in 2027.
Pataño stated that she is excited to be part of an ambitious project and aims to "make history" with Boston Legacy. She also expressed her enthusiasm to work with the team's players and staff.
No new information about Boston Legacy's performance in the North American League was provided. However, with the calibre of players they have signed and Pataño's coaching abilities, expectations are high for the newcomers.
