Borgata Casino Unveils Major Gaming Floor Upgrade Under New Leadership
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City is set to begin a major upgrade of its gaming floor next week. The project marks the first significant renovation under new leadership and follows a recent $55 million refurbishment of its MGM Tower. The casino's latest changes will include the closure of the Gypsy Bar on September 6. In its place, a new gaming area will be built, expanding the floor's offerings. Alongside this, Borgata plans to introduce a high-end lounge featuring rare liquors and an Asian-themed restaurant.
Since 2018, Borgata's dominance in Atlantic City has faced competition from newer venues like Hard Rock and Ocean casinos. Despite this, it remains the city's most profitable casino, leading in gross gaming revenue. In 2024, the property has regained some market share, though Hard Rock continues to strengthen its position. Nik Rytterstrom, who took over as president and COO in March, is overseeing the gaming floor update. The casino's strong performance is backed by its 2,727 rooms, which had an average occupancy rate of 71.1% and an average nightly rate of $175.29 in the first half of the year.
The upgrades reflect Borgata's ongoing efforts to maintain its leading position in Atlantic City's casino market. With new dining, gaming, and lounge spaces, the property aims to attract more visitors while reinforcing its reputation as a top destination. The changes also signal a fresh direction under Rytterstrom's leadership.
