In a highly publicised move, a convoy of 14 septic trucks drove into the village of Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo province on Thursday. The convoy, led by social activist Guntouch Pongpaiboonwet, also known as Gun Jompalang, was a response to comments made by a Cambodian influencer on Aug 26.

As the convoy arrived, the atmosphere was charged with patriotic fervour. A large group of Thai people gathered at Ban Nong Chan, showing support for the troops. By 10am, the number of demonstrators had grown significantly, with many having arrived since Wednesday afternoon.

At checkpoint S.40 in Ban Nong Chan, about 1,000 Thai people united in a symbolic act, singing the national anthem through loudspeakers. People carrying Thai flags were also present, demonstrating their support for the troops.

Gun Jompalang, known for his provocative protests, suggested spraying Cambodians with waste collected by septic trucks as a retaliation. He earlier proposed this unconventional response to Cambodian nationals who had dismantled barbed wire and taunted Thai soldiers in the area. However, the trucks were stopped from getting too close to the border to prevent the escalation of the tense atmosphere.

On the Cambodian side, no signs of influencers or villagers staging provocations against Thai officials or residents were reported on Thursday.

Makeshift shelters and food stations were set up to accommodate the crowd. The protest was deliberately staged to draw attention to tensions on the Thai-Cambodian border. However, it was halted by Thai authorities to prevent violent clashes, emphasising a balance between free expression and national security.

Gun Jompalang has built a large online following as a crusader on behalf of people seeking justice. He showcased the 14 septic trucks he arranged for Ban Nong Chan on his Facebook page on Thursday. The convoy's purpose or its intended target was not provided in this paragraph.

No reports of the convoy being stopped or prevented from reaching Ban Nong Chan were mentioned in this article. The protest in Ban Nong Chan was a significant event, highlighting the ongoing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia and the efforts of some to draw attention to these issues.
