BMW's 2027 iX3 SUV spearheads the automaker's major transformation, a re-imagining akin to the changes seen in the '60s.

The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as BMW unveils its latest electric offering, the iX3. This SUV marks a significant milestone for the German automaker, being the biggest investment in its history.

At its core, the iX3 boasts a powerful new sixth-generation eDrive powertrain that churns out an impressive 470 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, propelling the vehicle from 0-60 mph in less than 4.9 seconds and achieving a top speed of 130 mph.

One of the standout features of the iX3 is its Panoramic Vision screen, a 43.3-inch display that spans the dashboard, reflecting on the lower portion of the windshield. This innovative design provides drivers with an unparalleled view of the road ahead.

The iX3's drivetrain is equally impressive, capable of shifting torque to the rear axle to accelerate more crisply out of curves. This feature, combined with its powerful engine, promises a driving experience that is both dynamic and exhilarating.

The iX3's range is another highlight, with its new battery pack providing up to 400 miles on a single charge. Furthermore, the iX3 can charge three times faster than its predecessors, adding 217 miles of range in just 10 minutes and topping up from 10 to 80 percent in a mere 21 minutes.

The iX3 is also a testament to BMW's commitment to sustainability. Its interior features a two-tone black and white design, with sustainable materials used in the dash and seat upholstery. The SUV also offers a cargo net to keep things secure when the second-row seats fold flat, as well as a passthrough for skis.

The iX3's exterior design is clean but robust, with few precise lines, flush door handles, strong shoulders, a solid stance, and animated lighting. This design philosophy, known as Neue Klasse, aims to make these vehicles look like they've skipped an entire generation.

The Neue Klasse architecture will be adopted by 40 vehicles, including SUVs, sedans, coupes, and possibly a supercar, by the end of 2027. The New Class models, including the iX3, are produced in BMW's newly built and exclusively electric vehicle-focused factory in Debrecen, Hungary, starting in autumn 2025. Production in Munich will also commence in summer 2026 in new halls under construction there.

The iX3's operating system is another innovative feature. It uses data from 10 million BMWs on the road and features an expressive personal assistant activated by saying "Hey, BMW."

Lastly, the iX3's front trunk, or frunk, offers an additional 2 cubic feet of storage, perfect for storing the charging cable. The frunk also features an engine cover of sorts, complete with the BMW roundel, to keep dust out.
