Bird flu outbreak near Princess Beatrice’s Cotswolds estate raises alarms

A case of avian flu has been confirmed near Witney Lake in Oxfordshire. The outbreak was detected after a dead swan tested positive for the virus. Local authorities have now issued warnings to residents and visitors in the area.

The affected location sits close to the Cotswolds home of Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mozzi. Their £3.5 million farmhouse lies within the Blenheim Palace Estate, where the couple lives with their two young daughters.

Witney Town Council announced the bird flu outbreak following laboratory confirmation of the virus in the swan. The strain poses a serious risk, with high mortality rates among both wild and domestic birds. In rare cases, it can also spread to mammals and humans.

Blenheim Communities responded by advising the public to stay away from any sick or dead birds found on the estate. The warning comes as officials monitor the situation to prevent further spread.

Meanwhile, the outbreak has drawn attention due to its proximity to Princess Beatrice’s residence. The royal recently took on a new role as deputy patron of The Outward Bound Trust, despite ongoing scrutiny linked to her father’s controversies. Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, has also commented publicly as the flu case emerged near the family’s Cotswolds retreat.

The couple’s farmhouse, purchased in 2021, is situated just a short distance from the infected area. Local wildlife teams continue to assess the risk while urging caution among estate visitors.

The confirmed bird flu case has prompted immediate action from local councils and estate managers. Visitors are being told to report any signs of infected birds to prevent the virus from spreading further.

Princess Beatrice and her family remain in the vicinity, though no direct impact on their property has been reported. Health officials will keep monitoring the situation in the coming days.
