Binta Bah's relentless fight to empower FGM/C survivors and end cutting

Binta Bah has spent years fighting to end female genital mutilation (FGM/C) while supporting survivors through her organisation, Lundu e.V. Her work has earned praise from local leaders, including Senator for Women's Affairs Claudia Bernhard and Antje Jess, chair of the State Women's Council. Both highlight her ability to connect with affected women and encourage them to share their experiences.

Five years ago, Bah founded Lundu e.V. to provide education, counselling, and empowerment for women and girls impacted by FGM/C. The organisation runs daily individual support sessions, often lasting two to three hours, alongside prevention projects in Gambia. It also hosts intercultural events and festivals to raise awareness.

Beyond direct support, Lundu e.V. recently launched the Jungs-Projekt, using sport and workshops to empower young men. Bah's approach focuses on creating safe spaces for dialogue and self-empowerment, helping survivors build solidarity. Her relentless campaigning has made FGM/C a more visible issue, pushing for greater public understanding and action.

Bernhard commended Bah's dedication, noting her unique ability to reach those affected by FGM/C. Jess echoed this, emphasising how Bah's work gives women the confidence to speak out and seek help. While exact numbers of those supported remain unspecified, the organisation's impact continues to grow through its varied programs.

Lundu e.V. now stands as a key resource for survivors of FGM/C, offering counselling, education, and community projects. Bah's efforts have strengthened networks of support and expanded prevention work both locally and abroad. The organisation's ongoing initiatives aim to reduce harm and empower future generations.
