Passau to Boost Cycling Mobility with New Bike Garage

The picturesque city of Passau is set to enhance its cycling infrastructure significantly with the construction of a modern bike garage. Slated for completion in spring 2025, the facility will be located at the Ilzbruck parking deck, offering convenience for both tourists and commuters.

The city council's cycling concept, initiated in 2019, aims to improve cycling infrastructure across Passau. As part of this initiative, numerous bike racks and garages have been installed in the city center, and more are on the way. The new bike garage will provide 28 parking spaces and 24 lockers equipped with charging options for e-bike batteries, making it a valuable asset for the city's mobility.

The bike garage's strategic location near the Danube cycle path, the old town, and various city attractions makes it an attractive destination for tourists. Additionally, the garage's proximity to the city center will be particularly beneficial for commuters looking to switch to a bicycle for their daily commute.

The facility will boast a spacious 50 m² area fitted with state-of-the-art technology. To ensure a seamless user experience, a user-friendly app will be developed for reserving spaces. Commuters will also have the option to park their cars at the Ilzbruck parking deck or the Bschütt parking garage and continue their journey into the city by bicycle.

The bike garage is not the only improvement measure in the cycling concept. The designation of the Innbruckgasse as a traffic-calmed area and the introduction of a cargo bike rental system are also part of the plan. Further lockers with charging options for e-bikes are being created in the old and inner city, such as at Domplatz, Römerplatz, Ludwigsplatz, and Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Platz.

One of the most significant measures to improve cycling infrastructure in Passau was the completion of the pedestrian and cycle tunnel through the Georgsberg. This project, the largest of its kind in the city, forms a crucial part of the cycling concept and will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the new bike garage.

Further improvement measures to the cycling infrastructure are in the planning stage, ensuring that Passau continues to evolve as a bike-friendly city. The new bike garage at the Ilzbruck parking deck is just the beginning of a more sustainable and eco-friendly mobility future for Passau.
