Bernd Stelter Honored with Wesel's 48th Donkey Order for Wit and Charm

The 48th Donkey Order Ceremony took place on Tulip Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Wesel's Rhine Tent. The event, organized by WeselMarketing, was sold out as crowds gathered to celebrate this year's honouree. Bernd Stelter, a comedian and musician, received the award for his humour and unconventional approach to life.

The ceremony began with a lively performance by the Kolping Shooting Stars, who set the tone with a dynamic dance routine. Shortly after, the Fools' Parliament made their grand entrance, accompanied by the Lackhausen Fife and Drum Corps, the Prince's Guard, and the CAW carnival association board.

Throughout the event, local groups kept the energy high. The Wesel Prince's Guard, Tanzveilchen, Sweetys, and Knallblech all took the stage, entertaining the audience with music and performances. Susan Kent later wowed the crowd with her show Divas Live, showcasing her vocal range through a mix of global hits.

Mayor Rainer Benien presented the 48th Donkey Order to Bernd Stelter, who joked about his own stubbornness in his acceptance speech. Benien even debuted a new song, Bernd in Donkey Order Land, inviting the audience to sing along. Stelter then treated guests to a blend of comedy and music, reinforcing his reputation as a Westphalian Renaissance man.

The Donkey Order traditionally recognizes individuals who stand out for their wit and unconventional choices. Stelter was chosen for his charm, humour, and positive portrayal of Wesel, making him a fitting recipient for this year's award.

The ceremony wrapped up with performances from local acts and a celebratory atmosphere. Bernd Stelter's award highlights his impact as both an entertainer and a cultural figure. The sold-out event once again proved the Donkey Order's popularity in Wesel.
