Bergian Lions Struggle to Maintain Victory - Ultimately Suffering a Definite Defeat in Berlin

In a closely contested match, the Bergische HC faced a 12-goal defeat against Füchse Berlin in their opening game of the 2025 Handball-Bundesliga season. The game was a rollercoaster ride, with the scoreline seeing multiple lead changes before Füchse Berlin pulled away in the final 20 minutes.

Jaron Siewert, the coach of Füchse Berlin, acknowledged the resilience shown by the Bergische HC, stating that they deserved a draw due to Füchse Berlin's mistakes. However, it was the young Bergische HC team that suffered the loss, with a scoreline of 27:39 (17:20) in favour of Füchse Berlin.

The Bergische HC's captain, Tomas Babak, and his team managed to keep the game open despite an early red card for Wasielewski in the 20th minute. Sören Steinhaus, a debutant, brought momentum to the attack and set up goals for Aron Seesing. Yannick Fraatz, Seesing, and Steinhaus helped the Bergische HC remain within striking distance until half-time.

However, the second half of the game saw a different story. Markus Pütz, the coach of the Bergische HC, expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance for 40 minutes but criticized the last 20 minutes, during which the team ran out of steam, allowing Füchse Berlin to exploit and win by a large margin. Fabian Gutbrod, the team's captain, shared similar sentiments, stating that the team completely lost control in the final 20 minutes, resulting in the large defeat.

Despite the disappointing result, Markus Pütz believes that it's better to experience this phase now rather than in more crucial games. The team wants to learn from this defeat and show improvement in their next game against Erlangen. Fabian Gutbrod also expressed the team's desire to improve, stating that they can be satisfied with the first 40 minutes but not at all with the last 20.

New signing Johannes Wasielewski scored three goals and provided two assists in his first Bundesliga game, showcasing his potential for the season ahead. Lukas Diedrich, the goalkeeper for the Bergische HC, made several saves after his introduction, keeping the scoreline respectable.

The Bergische HC, the youngest team in the Handball-Bundesliga, will look to bounce back in their next game and start their season on a positive note.
