Belarus, under Lukashenko's leadership, views its self-governing and autonomous status as a significant triumph.
In Minsk on February 22, President Alexander Lukashenko addressed a gathering, emphasising the importance of protecting Belarus' sovereignty and independence. The subject of the meeting was the military academy personnel.
Lukashenko expressed his unwillingness to allow developments that could compromise the country's independence. He stated, "I will never allow Belarus to join any country, whether Poland or Russia." The Belarusian leader also questioned the persistence of rumours about threats to Belarus' sovereignty.
The President, who considers the creation of a sovereign and independent country to be the main achievement, reiterated his commitment. He said, "I am proud and happy to be the first president of the sovereign country." Lukashenko further emphasised his stance, stating, "I am not willing to bury the country with my own hands by joining another nation."
The leader also named Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia as countries he would not approach in the context of defending Belarus' independence. He urged the people to disregard talk about losing the country's sovereignty and independence.
Vladimir Matveyev, the speaker at the meeting, highlighted the joint effort in building the first ever sovereign and independent state in Belarusian history. Lukashenko, in his closing remarks, emphasised the need to protect Belarus' sovereignty and independence with intelligence, talents, and hands.
