behind Victoria Park's recognition for national award: a look at the figures involved
In a significant milestone for Guernsey football, the island's men's side secured the prestigious Muratti Vase at Victoria Park with a thrilling 3-1 win. This victory was just one of many achievements for the Guernsey FA since the opening of their new permanent home, Victoria Park, in March 2025.
Victoria Park, a 3G stadium and community hub, marks the Guernsey FA's first permanent home in over 130 years. The project, which took a decade to plan and just two years to complete, has been met with much acclaim. The facility has not only provided a modern and top-notch playing surface for the Guernsey FC's men's and women's teams but also created new career opportunities for passionate members of the community.
The Guernsey FA's new home has been shortlisted for a Facility Development award at the County FA Recognition Awards 2025. The awards aim to acknowledge outstanding work in grassroots football across various categories. The Guernsey FA was nominated in the Facility Development category alongside heavyweights such as Birmingham FA, Kent FA, Devon FA, and Northumberland FA.
The Guernsey FC's women's team, known as the Lionesses, have played four matches at Victoria Park, boasting a impressive 75% win rate. They have scored 28 goals and conceded just 6 at their new home. The Lionesses had an emphatic 11-0 victory over Sports Club of Jersey at Victoria Park, and in their debut English league match at the stadium, they won 7-5 against Wimborne Town.
The men's team, the Green Lions, have played six matches at Victoria Park, with a 50% overall win rate. Their biggest victory at the stadium was a 5-3 win in a friendly against Larkfield and New Hythe. Combined, all Guernsey sides have played 11 matches at Victoria Park, with 7 wins, 3 ties, and 1 loss. They have scored 40 goals and conceded 14.
The Guernsey FA's achievements at Victoria Park have contributed significantly to several strategic objectives, including increasing football participation, especially among women and girls, supporting local clubs, and developing opportunities for underrepresented groups.
The English FA's Head of Operations for Grassroots Football, Tim Foster, congratulated all those shortlisted for the County FA Recognition Awards 2025. The winner will be announced at Wembley Stadium on Thursday 6 November.
Regardless of the outcome, the Guernsey FA can be proud of the impact Victoria Park has had on their community and the positive changes it has brought to Guernsey football.
