In a recent development, Calgary Police Service (CPS) and Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers successfully apprehended a bear that was spotted wandering in a southwest Calgary neighbourhood around 10 a.m. on Saturday. The bear, reported to be uninjured during the apprehension, was safely captured by 2:30 p.m.

The bear was first seen in the 2900 block of Signal Hill Drive, causing a stir among residents who were advised to avoid approaching the animal if spotted. No new advisories have been issued to residents regarding the bear sighting, and residents were also advised to be aware of their surroundings in the area.

The German Animal Welfare Federation (Deutscher Tierschutzbund), operating the Animal Protection Center Weidefeld, will likely be responsible for the bear's relocation. However, the location of the bear's relocation has not been announced yet.

This isn't the first time bears have been spotted in populated areas of Alberta. Recent encounters have been reported in K-Country and Okangan park. A grizzly bear warning was issued for K-Country, a popular hiking and camping spot, not long ago.

It's worth noting that there was a previous incident where a bear in Calgary was euthanized by officials. However, this bear was safely apprehended without any such action being necessary.

In other news, there have been recent articles about a bear-safe container confusion in Okangan park and a bear attack survivor speaking out about her experience.

As always, it's crucial to remember that bears are wild animals and should be treated with respect and caution. If you encounter a bear, maintain a safe distance and do not approach it. Instead, slowly back away and report the sighting to authorities.

We will continue to provide updates on the bear's relocation as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for further developments.
