Max Eberl, the sports director, spoke up after their 4-2 loss against Hoffenheim.
During an interview on ZDF, someone asked: "Do you strongly object to my assumption that the new coach will be Italian?"
Eberl: "Yes!"
Previously, De Zerbi was seen as the frontrunner to replace Thomas Tuchel at the club.
