THW Deploys Special Oil Spill Combat Unit in Augsburg Amidst Flood Crisis

The Technical Relief Organization (THW) is stepping up its efforts in the district of Augsburg, as heavy rainfall continues to cause flooding and oil spills. A special oil spill combat unit will be deployed today, as part of the THW's ongoing operations to combat the effects of the floods.

The THW experts combating the oil pollution are specialized units from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief, deployed from various THW local branches across Germany to Augsburg for these operations. While the specific originating locations of these Fachkräfte (expert personnel) were not detailed in the provided sources, it is clear that they are part of the THW's extensive network of volunteers.

The THW's commitment to the flood-stricken region was originally reported by THW Regional Association Bavaria, and has since been transmitted via news aktuell. The THW is called upon by the federal government, EU's civil protection mechanism, and UN organizations for technical and logistical tasks, and their work in civil protection is supported by their specialists, technology, and experience.

In Vohburg, high-performance pumps have been put into operation to lower water levels, and they are capable of pumping out 24,000 liters of water per minute. The THW forces from Obernburg, Hof, and Schwandorf will be treating water contaminated with oil in Augsburg, reducing special waste by approximately 90%.

Elsewhere in Bavaria, the THW Bavaria is currently deploying over 1,000 volunteer forces in the fight against flooding. The district of Pfaffenhofen in Bavaria is threatened by further flooding, and residents were asked to leave their homes via loudspeaker announcements in Baar-Ebenhausen. An evacuation of a district in Baar-Ebenhausen was carried out by THW forces at 3 a.m.

Further communities in Bavaria are expected to be evacuated due to flooding, and the THW's vehicles capable of crossing flooded roads and waters were used for evacuation in Baar-Ebenhausen. The THW in Bavaria is also treating contaminated water from flooded areas with oil, as part of their efforts to mitigate the effects of the disaster.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Bavaria today, and the deployment of THW forces in the region is expected to continue for the entire week. The THW's tireless efforts to combat the effects of the floods and oil spills are a testament to their commitment to protecting communities in need.
