Basement Inferno: Residential and Business Buildings Engulfed in Flames
On August 28, 2025, a significant fire broke out in the Gröpelingen district of Bremen. The incident began in the basement of a residential and commercial building, with the first emergency call reaching the Bremen Fire Department at around 11 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found thick smoke billowing from the building. Fortunately, the building's occupants had already evacuated with the help of neighbours. Three people were treated by the rescue service at the scene, and one person was taken to a hospital for further examination as a precaution.
A team of breathing protection specialists from Fire and Rescue Stations 1, 5, and the voluntary Bremen-Burgdamm fire department worked tirelessly to locate and extinguish the fire in the basement. Simultaneously, forces from Stations 2 and 3 were dispatched to a kitchen fire in the Neue Vahr area. The Neue Vahr kitchen fire was quickly controlled by the team.
The fire in the Gröpelingen district was swiftly brought under control, and only one person was slightly injured in the incident.
