Baseball player Connor Norby of the Miami Marlins is once more on the sidelines due to a quad strain, while Kyle Stowers looks likely for a comeback next week.
The Miami Marlins are currently navigating a series of injuries to several key players, with third baseman Connor Norby and right-hander Edward Cabrera being the latest additions to the team's injured list.
Norby, who was activated on August 29 after missing the first three weeks of the season with an oblique strain and more than a month with a broken hamate bone in his left wrist, is out with a left quad strain and is expected to be out for the foreseeable future. The injury occurred during Wednesday's loss at Washington. Norby had gone 6 for 18 with 5 RBIs in the five games he played since returning, but has decided to take a cautious approach to avoid further injury and return before the end of the season.
Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday with a right elbow sprain. The nature and extent of his injury are still being gathered, and team doctor Dr. Lee Kaplan declined to speculate if Cabrera might need Tommy John surgery.
On a positive note, left-hander Ryan Weathers is expected to return to Miami's rotation by the middle of next week after being on the 60-day IL with a left lat strain. Additionally, outfielder Kyle Stowers is expected to return from a left oblique strain as early as next week, provided his rehab outings with Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday and Saturday go well.
The team has also been dealing with the absence of outfielder Derek Hill, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday, retroactive to September 2, due to a right hamstring strain.
As the Marlins' 2025 season comes to a close on September 28, the team will be looking to get their injured players back on the field as soon as possible. Right-hander Janson Junk is expected to start for the Marlins on Monday after a strong rehab outing with Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. Reliever JesuΜs Tinoco underwent hybrid reconstruction in his right ulnar collateral ligament with an associated flexor tendon repair on Wednesday.
Despite the injuries, the Marlins have shown resilience and determination, and will continue to fight for every win as the season comes to a close.
