Barstool Sports Inks teams up with Rumble

Barstool Sports announced a partnership with right-wing video sharing platform Rumble (NASDAQ: RUM) on Monday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but news of the agreement sent shares of Florida-based Rumble up more than 32%, to about seven times the daily average in midday trading. Rumble also provides cloud computing services through its Rumble Cloud division.

"Through the partnership, Rumble users will have access to all Barstool Sports content on the platform, including live streams. Additionally, Barstool Sports will market and promote Rumble as their preferred home for video."

Barstool Sports also becomes a Rumble Cloud customer.

Bar Stool, Rumble have synergy

Rumble describes itself as a "high-growth video platform and cloud service provider" dedicated to restoring freedom to the internet. In other words, the company hopes to escape the accusations of bias and censorship that have plagued some left-leaning mainstream content platforms.

In the current environment of fragmented political discourse and heightened criticism, this mission is seen as controversial.Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy doesn't shy away from controversy. That Portnoy likes to speak his mind may be an indication that the partnership between his company and Rumble is ideal.

Barstool Sports and Rumble may not be able to work together while Barstool Sports is controlled by Penn Entertainment (NASDAQ: PENN ). Last August, the regional casino operator announced plans to partner with ESPN to develop a new mobile sports betting app and then sell the sports and pop culture media assets back to Portnoy for $1.

Portnoy admitted that the deal was probably for the best, and that his penchant for ruffling feathers and rarely backing down may have resulted in Penn losing his sports betting license in some states.

"I'm excited about Rumble's commitment to the sport and growing its audience," Portnoy said in a statement. "With the power of Barstool Sports, we will help Rumble become a top player in video, cloud and live streaming. "

Barstool is looking for a new CEO

Barstool Sports is back under the control of Portnoy, who said he won't sell the company again, but the company may be looking for new leadership.

Erika Ayers Badan resigned as chief executive officer (CEO) last week. She has been with the company since 2016 and oversaw its eventual marriage to Penn Entertainment. She oversaw Barstool's exponential growth and helped the company develop relationships with many mainstream advertisers.

“Without a doubt, @erika was perfect and probably just the right fit for us. It’s been quite a run and we couldn’t have done it without them. She is everything I dreamed of being, and even more so as a CEO, ” Portnoy said in a post on X last week.
