Bari Weiss' Next CBS News Move: Town Halls With JD Vance, Sam Altman and Debates About God and Feminism

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss is launching a new primetime series called Things That Matter. The programme will feature town halls and debates on major issues facing America. Bank of America has already signed on as a sponsor for the events.

The series will begin in 2026, though exact dates have not yet been announced. Topics will include questions like Does America Need God?, Has Feminism Failed Women?, and Should Gen Z Believe in the American Dream? Weiss has previously moderated high-profile discussions, including a CBS town hall with Erika Kirk that drew an average of 1.9 million viewers.

Participants in the upcoming debates will include Vice President JD Vance, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Other speakers will feature Isabel Brown, Harry Sisson, psychologist Steven Pinker, columnist Ross Douthat, journalist Liz Plank, and commentator Allie Beth Stuckey. The events will also explore the future of political parties and the current state of the country. It remains unclear whether Weiss will host all sessions herself or if additional moderators will join the series. The goal, however, is to encourage open, civil discussions on divisive issues.

The Things That Matter series aims to bring together diverse voices for honest debate. With major figures from politics, technology, and media involved, the town halls will provide a platform for national conversations. Bank of America’s sponsorship ensures the events will have significant reach when they begin in 2026.
