Barclays Bank Introduces Free WiFi Service in UK Branches, Supported by BT
Barclays Bank has announced that it will offer free WiFi network services in 1,500 of its UK branches, starting today and completing the rollout by the end of March. The service, supported by UK telco BT, is aimed at enhancing the customer experience and improving the in-branch experience according to a survey of 2,000 consumers.
The survey findings suggest that a significant portion of consumers value the availability of free WiFi in bank branches. In fact, 41% of respondents felt that free wifi would "greatly improve their in-branch experience".
Luis Alvarez, CEO of BT Global Services, stated that the technology now exists for organizations to connect customers to the right people and information in a seamless, cost-effective way. He praised Barclays Bank for prioritizing investments to deliver great service for customers as well as the bottom line.
Barclays Bank's CEO, Ashok Vaswani, stated that the service is aimed at allowing staff to demonstrate mobile apps to customers in the branch. This initiative is a response to customer feedback about making banking easier.
The free WiFi service is intended to allow customers to instantly download and use all Barclays Bank's mobile apps. Barclays Bank staff will be available to show customers how to use the mobile apps, and they will use the free WiFi to give product demos using customers' own mobiles and tablets.
BT has been testing the WiFi service in three branches of Barclays Bank over the past six months. BT Global Services sees the technology as a means to connect customers to the right people and information in a seamless, cost-effective way.
The rollout of free WiFi across Barclays branches is part of Barclays Bank's efforts to showcase the ease of use of its mobile apps. The service is available in over 750 branches from today, with the remaining branches to be installed by the end of March.
The survey was conducted across UK, US, Spanish, and German consumers, highlighting Barclays Bank's commitment to improving the customer experience on a global scale.
