Barcelona's Jaç Hi-Fi Café introduces the Japanese listening-bar scene, offering audiophiles a unique experience.
In the heart of Barcelona, Jaç Hi-Fi Café stands as a unique fusion of Mediterranean and Japanese influences, paying homage to the revered jazz kissa of Japan. The café, designed by Isern Serra Studio, boasts an interior that is a sequence of tactile environments, each more inviting than the last.
Upon entering, patrons are greeted by a concrete sofa, beige cushions, and a sculptural Akari E lamp by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra. Custom walnut tables, stools by Noo.ma, and an artwork by Chidy Wayne add to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The entrance leads to a communal table, which introduces a brutalist edge, surrounded by warm tones of wooden and metallic stools.
The pièce de résistance, however, lies in the rear alcove. A cylindrical column divides shelves filled with vinyl, with a walnut installation curving across the wall and ceiling, creating a semi-enclosed listening zone. The bar, crafted from a single monolithic slab of walnut, functions as both counter and acoustic instrument. Cushions and low tables extend the invitation to linger in the rear alcove, illuminated by the Disco wall lamp.
The bar also features shelving for vinyl, a baked-goods display, and custom Bloom Island speakers carved from the same timber. A four-seat window niche offers a more intimate seating option. Discreetly integrated bathrooms are available for patrons' convenience.
The facade of Jaç Hi-Fi Café is made of iroko wood stained to match the walnut interior. The name Jaç, which means 'to recline, rest, and let go' in Catalan, nods to jazz and recalls the Japanese listening bar. The café is a testament to the art of relaxation, inviting patrons to unwind and immerse themselves in the finely tuned sounds of Stainless steel Bloom Island speakers, projecting from the rear alcove.
Coffee at Jaç Hi-Fi Café is roasted in-house, sourced from carefully chosen farms. For those seeking a taste of Japan, Matcha tea comes directly from two growers in Japan. Whether it's the coffee, tea, or the music, Jaç Hi-Fi Café offers a unique and unforgettable experience for all who visit.
