Barbecue enthusiasts join the Apple Tree Challenge by implementing water-saving techniques
In a unique and inspiring trend, fire departments across northeast Germany are participating in the "Apple Tree Challenge." This initiative encourages departments to plant an apple tree within seven days, after being nominated by another department.
The trend was started through the "Apfelbaum-Challenge," with the THW Rotenburg accepting the challenge and planting an apple tree at St. Viti Gymnasium in Zeven. Since then, it has spread to the administrative areas of Stargarder Land, Amt Friedland, and Amt Neverin.
The fire departments of Burg Stargard, Beseritz, Pragsdorf, Sadelkow, Salow, Kotelow, Wulkenzin, Neverin, Neubrandenburg Oststadt, Woggersin, and Friedland have already taken part in the challenge. The Wildberg fire department plans to become the first in the Amt Treptower Tollensewinkel to participate.
Peter Lauterbach, fire chief of the GroΓ Nemerow/Rowa fire department, sees the trend as a way to show the diversity of their activities. When people think of the fire department, they typically think of fires or traffic accidents. This trend encourages fire departments to think about what they can do that is unique.
The GroΓ Nemerow/Rowa fire department recently planted an apple tree in the community and came up with something special for it. They used a boat to plant an apple tree named "Florentine" by water rescue, simulating a deployment.
District fire chief Stephan Drews believes the action is great for drawing attention to the fire departments and their colleagues in neighboring towns. He also sees it as a way to motivate others to be active and come together.
The Wildberg fire chief believes that the apple tree challenge will gain momentum in the Amt Treptower Tollensewinkel in the coming weeks. The tree planting was a way for the fire department to make their volunteering visible and show their unity. Many more fire departments in the region are currently nominated to participate in the apple tree challenge.
The trend also highlights the commitment of fire departments to volunteering. It's a reminder that these departments are not just about fighting fires and responding to accidents, but also about contributing positively to their communities.
