Ganesh Chaturthi, a significant Hindu festival marking the birth of Lord Ganesha, is set to extend beyond August 27, 2025, resulting in several states declaring bank holidays on August 28.
The affected states include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Odisha. Banks in these regions will be closed on August 28, in addition to August 27, to honour the festivities.
This holiday matters as it may delay essential banking work for customers who are dependent on branch-level services, such as traders, businesses, and individuals who need to deposit large amounts, clear cheques, or avail demand drafts. However, customers are advised to schedule their banking requirements early and utilise digital platforms for uninterrupted financial transactions during the festive period.
Regional offices will be shut down, but banks in other states will operate normally. Customers can use ATMs, mobile banking apps, internet banking, UPI, and digital wallets for banking services during the holidays.
Ganesh Chaturthi starts on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and ends on September 6, 2025. In Maharashtra, the cities affected are Mumbai, Nagpur, and Belapur. In Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada is affected, while in Telangana, Hyderabad is affected. In Karnataka, Bengaluru is affected, and in Tamil Nadu, Chennai is affected. In Gujarat, the affected area is Ahmedabad, and in Goa, Panaji and surrounding locations are affected. In Odisha, Bhubaneswar and other places are affected.
It's worth noting that the holiday does not affect digital banking facilities, which will function normally during the bank holidays. UPI, mobile banking, ATMs, and online payments will continue to function throughout India.
Grapes, a widely consumed fruit in India, serve not only as a table fruit but also in various other culinary applications. In fact, grapes cultivation in Theni, a region in India, is an important agricultural activity.
Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and make use of the digital banking facilities to ensure smooth transactions during the festive period.
