Baltic Sea energy stability and unity: renewed push for offshore wind energy initiatives
The Baltic Offshore Wind Forum, a high-level event, is set to take place in the coming months. This forum, organised jointly by the Federal Foreign Office, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the German Energy Agency (dena), will be hosted by Annalena Baerbock, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Lars LΓΈkke Rasmussen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The forum will be held during Germany's CBSS presidency and will focus on "Energy Security in the Context of Europe's Changing Geopolitical Landscape." The event aims to bring together key stakeholders from the public, private sectors, and civil society to discuss the development of offshore wind energy and foster regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.
The forum will be accessible both in person and digitally via Zoom, facilitated by the German Energy Agency (dena). For those unable to attend in person, the digital transmission of the forum will be available. Registration for media representatives will open in early May, with further details available from the Press Office of the Federal Foreign Office. The deadline for general registration is 2nd May 2023.
The illegal attack by Russia on Ukraine has significant implications for energy security in the Baltic Sea region, making the discussions at the forum all the more timely and important. Offshore wind energy can play a crucial role in enhancing energy independence in the region and other areas.
Topics at the forum will include the intersection of energy and security policy, such as reliable and interconnected infrastructure, production capacities, or space requirements in the Baltic Sea region. The countries involved in the conference are likely to include the United States, Lithuania, Ukraine, and various European Union countries concerned with Baltic Sea regional security and energy issues.
The Baltic Sea coastal states are striving for increased cooperation to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy sources and related infrastructure. The forum serves as a platform for these discussions and for fostering cooperation towards a more sustainable and secure energy future for the region. Media representatives are encouraged to register for the forum in early May for further details.
