Bad Neuenahr’s historic casino reopens after devastating floods

Bad Neuenahr’s casino has reopened its doors after a two-year closure caused by severe flooding. The new venue, located in the historic railway station, officially welcomed guests on 30 June 2023. While smaller in scale, the operators aim to revive the town’s gaming news scene with a fresh start.

The original Spielbank Bad Neuenahr once occupied a 16,000 square foot space inside the Kurhaus building. It featured 150 slot machines, eight table games, and two restaurants. But the devastating July 2021 floods forced its closure, leaving the site unusable.

After evaluating 12 possible locations, the operator chose the neo-Gothic railway station, built in 1880, as the casino’s new home. The gaming floor now spans just 600 square meters—less than half the size of the previous venue. Inside, visitors will find 75 slot machines, two roulette tables, and two blackjack tables. Managing Director Michael Seegert acknowledged the downsizing but remained optimistic. He expects the new casino to achieve around 40% of the former turnover. The dress code has also relaxed, with smart casual attire now standard and ties or jackets no longer required. Entry remains affordable, with a €3.50 fee, though opening hours have yet to be confirmed. The previous casino operated daily from 2pm to 3am, but the new schedule is still under review.

The casino’s return marks a key step in Bad Neuenahr’s recovery from the 2021 floods. With fewer games and a smaller space, the focus shifts to rebuilding visitor numbers and revenue. The railway station’s historic setting provides a distinctive backdrop for the town’s revived gaming news scene.
