B-52s Extend Their Long-Running Las Vegas Gig
Ready to rock, folks? The B-52s are setting up shop in Sin City for a while longer! After blasting off their final tour, they're extending their residency at the Venetian's prestigious theater and returning for an explosion of '80s hits in April 2024, specifically on the 12th, 13th, 17th, 19th, and 20th.
You heard it rightβthe legendary band known for their chart-toppers like "Rock Lobster," "Private Idaho," and the legendary "Love Shack" is back! After wrapping up their initial 10-show run in September, they ain't slowing down anytime soon.
The residency news arrives hot on the heels of their "Final Tour Ever of Planet Earth" that took them across 11 cities before its grand finale in January. frontman Fred Schneider spoke to outtraveler.com, sharing his delight about settling down for a while instead of the usual touring grind. He said, "People are responding well! We don't play that much so people don't get sick of us. We just want to put on a kick-ass rock show."
But that's not all! Schneider will be doubling up as a co-host at an exciting meet-and-greet event coupled with a book signing at Las Vegas' vibrant Punk Rock Museum on August 27. The event will feature photography master Michael Grecco, whose acclaimed book "Punk, Post Punk, New Wave: Onstage, Backstage, In Your Face, 1978-1991" hit the shelves in 2020. Schneider, who penned the book's foreword, will be autographing copies alongside Michael himself.
Formed in the vibrant Athens, Ga. Chinese restaurant scene in October 1976, the B-52s quickly emerged as a force to reckon with, with Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson, and her late brother, Ricky Wilson, making up the creative ensemble. The band got their catchy name from Southern slang related to the extravagant bouffant hairstyles of the time, and although Ricky Wilson passed away due to AIDS-related complications in 1985, the band continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Tickets for the long-awaited B-52s Venetian shows, with prices starting as low as $49.50, will go on sale on August 25, 2023, at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster and venetianlasvegas.com.
