Azure services experiencing higher response times due to damage to undersea Red Sea communication cable, as per Microsoft's recent announcement.
Microsoft, one of the world's leading tech companies, has announced a temporary slowdown in response times for its Azure cloud platform. The slowdown is attributed to multiple undersea cable breaks in the Red Sea, according to the tech giant.
The demand for computing is expected to outpace supply until the end of the year, and Microsoft's Azure, the world's second-largest cloud service, is no exception. However, the current situation does not indicate a slowdown in Microsoft's operations as a whole.
The undersea cable disruptions have primarily affected data traffic routed through the Middle East. Some customers using Azure may still experience delays in connectivity due to the rerouting. Network traffic that does not traverse through the Middle East remains unaffected, ensuring services outside the region remain operational.
Azure has responded by redirecting traffic along alternate routes to minimize the impact of the slowdown. This rerouting has prevented outright outages of its services, but Microsoft expects higher latency on some traffic that previously traversed through the Middle East. The company will continue to issue daily updates or sooner if conditions change.
It's important to note that this issue does not directly impact Microsoft's financial standing. Recently, there have been no specific ratings upgrades for Microsoft, and Wedbush has listed 16 top AI-related stocks to own heading into year-end, but Microsoft is not explicitly mentioned in this context.
Meanwhile, OpenAI, not related to Microsoft, has announced an increased spending forecast, raising its spending forecast to $115B through 2029. This development underscores the growing investment in the artificial intelligence sector.
Despite the temporary setback, Microsoft's Azure cloud service continues to compete with industry leaders, including Amazon Web Services, albeit trailing slightly in terms of size. The company remains committed to delivering high-quality, reliable services to its customers.
