Awareness drive concerning safety issues successfully impacts 208 laborers and 87 commercial entities
Abu Dhabi Launches Comprehensive Public Safety and Fire Prevention Campaign
In a proactive move to promote community safety and protect its residents, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority, in collaboration with Al Dhafra Municipality, conducted a Public Safety and Fire Prevention Campaign in March 2023.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness about various safety aspects, particularly focusing on fire hazards and preventive practices, as well as risks linked to direct sun exposure and high temperatures. The initiative reached 208 workers and 87 businesses, with a significant impact on both laborers and industrial and temporary land plot owners.
A total of 142 awareness workshops were delivered, targeting these groups. The workshops covered a wide range of topics, from the importance of maintaining fire suppression systems to the safe connection and storage of gas cylinders and electrical wiring. Compliance with minimum space requirements in worker accommodations was also emphasized.
The campaign was not limited to workshops alone. Lectures, educational text messages, social media platforms, and small-scale community meetings were utilized as communication channels to ensure the message reached as many people as possible.
Practical safety tips were provided to prevent heat-related illnesses, encouraging the use of personal protective measures like sunscreen and appropriate clothing. The campaign also aimed to reduce cases of heatstroke, dehydration, and other health issues associated with extreme heat, particularly during the summer season.
To measure the campaign's effectiveness, 76 surveys were distributed during the campaign, achieving a high 92% engagement rate among the targeted groups. The engagement rate indicates a strong interest in the campaign's message and a willingness to adopt the recommended practices.
The campaign was part of a broader effort to ensure worker protection through fire and disease prevention measures, enhance oversight of public health and appearance, and monitor risky practices. By fostering a culture of safety, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority and Al Dhafra Municipality are working towards a safer and healthier community.
