BUWOG Bauträger GmbH Honoured with "Excellent Sustainability" Award for Second Consecutive Year
Awards ceremony 'Excellent Sustainability 2025' grants accolade to real estate company BUWOG for their outstanding efforts in sustainability.
BUWOG Bauträger GmbH, a leading German real estate company, has been recognised for its sustainability efforts once again. The F.A.Z.-Institut has awarded BUWOG with the "Excellent Sustainability" accolade for the second time in 2025.
The company's sustainability score has improved significantly, rising from 84.1 points in 2024 to 89.4 points in 2025. This impressive development places BUWOG among nine nationwide real estate companies that received this recognition.
One of BUWOG's notable projects is Germany's largest residential wood construction project, currently underway in Berlin. This initiative demonstrates BUWOG's commitment to using ecological building materials and implementing climate-adapted construction methods.
The company is also actively creating green open spaces and retention areas, contributing positively to the environment.
In addition to its work in Berlin, BUWOG, in partnership with GROPYUS, is developing new living spaces through densification projects in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Lichtenberg.
BUWOG's sustainable initiatives span from renovating historical buildings to implementing innovative sponge city concepts. The company is also a member of the KOALITION für HOLZBAU, aiming to realise at least 20 percent of its development pipeline as wooden buildings.
Moreover, BUWOG is a member of the ODH Open District Hub, an initiative that aims to implement the energy transition in the quarter by coupling the sectors of electricity, heat, and mobility.
Daniel Riedl, a member of the board of Vonovia SE, praised BUWOG's commitment to sustainable qualities from the very beginning of planning, tailoring these qualities to individual needs and corresponding to the location and type of each project.

The "Excellent Sustainability 2025" study was accompanied by the IMWF Institute for Management and Economic Research. The study analysed around 17,000 companies within the observation period from 01.07.2023 to 30.06.2025.
BUWOG's current development pipeline in Germany amounts to around 55,000 housing units under construction and in planning. The company's unwavering commitment to sustainability continues to set a high standard in the real estate industry.
