Automaker Citroen reintroduces internal combustion engines in the Berlingo and Spacetourer models.

Citroen has announced the reintroduction of petrol and diesel engines for its Berlingo and Spacetourer MPVs in the UK. The new vehicles, expected to be available from autumn 2023, aim to cater to families and businesses alike, as stated by Citroen UK Managing Director, Greg Taylor.

For the Spacetourer, the 178bhp diesel four paired with an eight-speed automatic is now available, with the most expensive XL, fitted with this punchier diesel, priced at £28,015. No new diesel or petrol engine options are introduced for the Spacetourer in this update.

On the other hand, the five-seat Berlingo M gets the option of a 108bhp three-cylinder petrol with a six-speed manual gearbox. Both the Berlingo M and the seven-seat Berlingo XL also get a 99bhp four-cylinder diesel with a six-speed manual. A more powerful 128bhp diesel with an eight-speed automatic is also available for the Berlingo M and Berlingo XL.

The prices for the ICE Berlingos range from £23,915 for the entry-level petrol M to £29,780 for a 128bhp diesel M in Max trim. The Spacetourer's entry-level M form with the new diesel engine is priced from £41,925, while the top-of-the-line XL Spacetourer with the new diesel engine is priced at £48,150.

It's worth noting that Citroen had reintroduced ICE options to the Berlingo range back in 2023, but initially only in LCV form with a fixed mesh behind the rear seats. The electric e-Berlingo, with a 134bhp front-mounted motor and an official range of 212 miles (in M form), remains in the line-up, priced from £31,240. Similarly, the e-Spacetourer, with a 215-mile range, is priced from £36,995.

The new Berlingos will be available before the end of 2023, providing consumers with a wider range of options to choose from when considering their next MPV. This move by Citroen underscores the ongoing trend of offering a mix of electric and internal combustion engine vehicles to meet the diverse needs and preferences of consumers.
