Authorities in Poland seek individuals who may have observed relevant events.
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, an unprecedented incident occurred near Oberdachstetten, district of Ansbach. An unknown individual threw a stone at a passing freight train, causing significant disruption and raising concerns about safety.
The train, travelling from Aschaffenburg to Salzburg, was moving at approximately 100 km/h when the stone struck the windshield, shattering it. The impact resulted in the train driver sustaining minor injuries from the glass fragments.
Immediately following the incident, patrols from the Federal Police and the Police Inspectorate Rothenburg ob der Tauber began investigations. The Middle Franconia Criminal Investigation Department also conducted initial criminal police measures.
The Ansbach Criminal Police's homicide unit has since taken over the investigation, suspecting an attempted homicide and dangerous interference with rail traffic. Extensive trace evidence procedures have been initiated to gather more information about the incident.
As a result, the railway line in the affected area was temporarily closed. The train was brought to a halt in the area of Lehrberg.
