Authorities halt unchilled meat delivery with an intoxicated driver behind the wheel

A 24-year-old driver from Rhineland-Palatinate is facing charges following an incident on Sunday on federal highway 43a near Hanau Central Station in South East Hesse.

According to the South East Hesse Police Headquarters, officers stopped the white van due to an unsecure driving style and the driver using a mobile phone. Upon pulling over, the driver was found to have an alcohol level of 1.42 per thousand during a breath alcohol test, leading to the driver being taken out of circulation by the police.

During the inspection of the van's cargo area, the officers discovered an unusual cargo: about 20 kilograms of pre-cooked and raw barbecue meat in a red plastic box. The container was unsecured on the loading surface, and parts of the meat were already thawing, emitting a smell.

The driver stated that he was delivering the meat to a friend for a festival in Bavaria. However, the van did not have a cooling device, and the meat was not transported in an orderly manner. These factors have led to potential violations of food law provisions being examined.

The recipient of the delivery was unlikely to be pleased due to the seizure of the van and its cargo. The meat was secured and disposed of properly.
