Authorities detain three individuals suspected of automobile thefts
In a series of events that unfolded over the weekend, two men were arrested in Cologne, Germany, in connection with a suspected vehicle theft and attempted carjacking.
The first incident occurred on Friday, 15th August, in Cologne-Altstadt-Nord, where a 44-year-old man was suspected of stealing a Piaggio GTS 125 moped from Olympiaweg. The suspect was arrested in Cologne-Müngersdorf by civilian officers.
On Sunday, 17th August, the story took a new turn. Two men, both 27 years old, were arrested in Cologne-Altstadt-Nord in the afternoon. The arrests took place in the Gereonswall/Weidengasse area, following immediate search measures and tips from the victim.
The suspects initially fled the scene but were later apprehended by police patrols. They were provisionally arrested and were suspected of attempting to steal a Mercedes E 400 from Marzellenstraße. One of the suspects was a resident of Cologne.
The officers observed one of the men showing unusual interest in parked vehicles at the "Stadionbad". On the van's loading area, the officers found the stolen Vespa. The Vespa was returned to its 34-year-old owner the same day.
The arrests led to further investigations, and on Monday, a judge remanded one of the suspects in custody. The names of the two men arrested on Sunday, August 17, were not disclosed in the provided information.
