Authorities are in search of an unidentified loan shark for alleged fraudulent activities.
In a recent development, the authorities in Celle, Germany, have issued a warning to the public following a series of phone scams that have targeted elderly residents.
On Friday, August 29, 2025, an elderly woman in Nienhorst fell victim to a fraudster who posed as a doctor and demanded a five-figure sum for her daughter's hospital medication. The handover of the money took place near the victim's residence on Behrestrasse in Nienhorst.
The perpetrator, described as a man between 160–165 cm tall, 18–20 years old, thin, with dark hair, dressed entirely in black, collected the money near the woman's home and left in a presumably gray car. The police are seeking witnesses who saw the unknown man and/or can provide information about the car.
Authorities have emphasised that serious institutions do not demand immediate cash payments and never ask for personal information such as account details, addresses, or birthdates over the phone. If in doubt, the public is advised to check with their local police station themselves using a number from the phone book or the internet, not the caller's callback number.
Scammers often use emotional manipulation to force quick decisions. The police warn against being skeptical of calls from people claiming to be prosecutors, police officers, or other officials demanding money. If something seems off or the situation seems suspicious, remain skeptical.
The public is encouraged to contact the police in Celle at 05141-2770 if they have any information about this incident or similar scams. Reporting suspicious calls to your local police is crucial, as every piece of information helps in the investigation.
To raise awareness, the authorities advise talking to relatives, friends, and neighbours about scams. If you have been a victim of a phone scam, do not hesitate to share your experience to help others avoid falling victim.
