Authorities are examining the reason behind the traffic incident.
In the small town of Gronau-Epe, situated within the circle of Borken, a road user was caught driving over twice the permitted 30 km/h speed limit this week. This incident was one of many speeding offenses uncovered during a series of speed checks conducted by the traffic service of the circular police authority Borken.
Over the course of the week, the traffic service monitored speeding at 16 measuring points across the circle area, with 11 of these locations being checked specifically this week. The results were alarming, with a total of 691 drivers found to be driving too fast, accounting for approximately 16% of the measured drivers.
The severest speeding violation in Gronau-Epe occurred on Vennstraße, where a driver was clocked at 66 km/h (the speed limit on this road is unknown). In the South circle, a speeding offense of 91 km/h (limit 50 km/h) was recorded in Bocholt-Hemden on Hamalandstraße. The traffic service also recorded a speeding offense of 115 km/h (limit 70 km/h) on Burloer Straße in Borken, and a shocking 144 km/h (limit 70 km/h) on L 574 in Heek, located in the North circle.
Excessive speed and reckless driving remain significant causes of accidents in the circle of Borken. These accidents often result in serious consequences, affecting not only the involved parties but also uninvolved road users. Six drivers were found to have exceeded the permitted maximum speed so severely that they may face a driving ban.
Penalty proceedings were initiated in 154 cases, and warning fines were imposed in 531 cases.
