Austria's United by Music Launches First-Ever School Talent Contest for Eurovision 2026

A new school music competition called United by Music will launch as part of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Organised for the first time, it invites students aged 14 and older to submit musical performances. The contest aims to bring young talent together while celebrating cultural exchange across Austria.

The competition opens for entries on February 9, with submissions accepted until March 27. Students can upload audio or video recordings of their performances via the Ministry of Education's website. Accepted genres range widely, from original songs and cover versions to pop, rap, and choral works.

A winner will be chosen from each of Austria's nine federal states. The nine selected teams will travel to Vienna at no cost to participate in the final events. Judging will focus solely on artistic merit, with production quality not influencing the results. The jury includes former Eurovision participant Zoë Straub, contest head producer Michael Krön, and Dorothee Freiberger, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Education. The top three acts will perform live in Vienna during the Eurovision festivities, showcasing their talent four days before the ESC final. To support the initiative, educational materials have been developed for music, history, and civics classes. These resources aim to deepen students' understanding of cultural collaboration and community engagement.

The United by Music competition will run alongside the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, which features 37 participating countries. The winning teams will gain exposure during one of Europe's biggest musical events. Their performances will highlight the creativity and diversity of Austria's young musicians.
