Mike Cook Takes the Helm at Army Materiel Command
Mike Cook, a career soldier for 28 years, has assumed the role of Command Sergeant Major at the Army Materiel Command (AMC). Cook, who started his military career in armor and tanks, spent the last 17 years in Army Financial Management before retiring in 2016. He returned to active duty in 2020, joining AMC as the Deputy for two years.
Cook's journey at AMC began in 2020, when he moved from Redstone Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Prior to his current role, he worked as the Deputy G-8 at Redstone Army Space and Missile Defense Command after retiring from the army.
In his new position, Cook found that every day is an adventure at AMC. Despite his extensive background in finance, he discovered that AMC presented new challenges.
Cook's tenure as G-8 at AMC has spanned more than two years. Before he took on this role, Ms. Christina Freese held the position. Freese, who was the 8 before moving to be the G-1, worked under Cook when he was the Deputy for two years.
Ms. Freese's departure from the G-8 position paved the way for Cook to take over. He worked under Freese when she was the 8, and then moved to be the G-1. Freese, after her move, was subsequently selected to be the G-1.
Cook's career in the military has been marked by a spirit of adventure and a willingness to take on new challenges. His transition from armor and tanks to finance, and then his return to active duty after retirement, are testament to his adaptability and dedication.
As he continues to serve at AMC, Cook is undoubtedly looking forward to the adventures that each new day brings.
