Audi initiates the manufacturing of the E5 Sportback model in China for series production.

The Audi-SAIC cooperation project has unveiled its first series-production model, the Audi E5 Sportback, a fully electric fastback with four doors. The new vehicle, which embodies the best of both worlds, combines iconic design, premium quality, technical precision, emotional driving dynamics, and China's cutting-edge technology, innovation, and digital ecosystem.

The E5 Sportback is being manufactured in a dedicated production facility established on the existing SAIC Volkswagen site in Anting, Shanghai. The operations are characterized by a high degree of automation, state-of-the-art technologies, and a fully digitalized production management system. Initially, around 700 employees will produce the E5 Sportback at the facility.

Fermin Soneira, CEO of the Audi-SAIC cooperation project, expressed his excitement about the new model, stating that the E5 Sportback marks the beginning of a new era of Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICVs).

Pricing and Availability

The E5 Sportback comes in four variants, with prices ranging from 235,000 to 319,900 Yuan (28,080 - 38,200 Euro). Pre-sales for the E5 Sportback have started in China, and the first vehicles will be delivered in September.

Power and Performance

The E5 Sportback offers four distinct powertrains, providing both rear-wheel and quattro drive options. The vehicle's power outputs reach up to 579 kW, and it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in up to 3.4 seconds. The E5 Sportback boasts a maximum range of 770km, ensuring long-distance travel with minimal stops for charging.

Connected Vehicle Functionality

The E5 Sportback offers next-generation connected vehicle functionality, allowing drivers to stay connected and in control wherever they go. Machine learning is used for quality monitoring in the production process of the Audi models, ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability.

The Future of Audi in China

Two additional Audi models are scheduled to follow within the next two years. These new models will be produced in Anting, China, alongside the E5 Sportback. The Audi E5 Sportback, with its blend of design, performance, and technology, is a testament to the future of Audi in China and the world of electric vehicles.
