In Bielefeld, Germany, on August 27, 2025, a 15-year-old was arrested for a series of traffic violations while riding an e-scooter. The incident took place around 5:30 PM on Carl-Severing-Straße.
The traffic unit officer, patrolling on a motorcycle, noticed the speeding e-scooter rider and signaled for the rider to stop. However, the teenager refused, leading to a chase that continued onto Kupferheide Straße.
During the chase, the e-scooter, which was reported stolen, was found to be operating at a speed exceeding the speed limit, approximately 50 km/h. An analysis of the vehicle's software revealed it could have reached speeds up to 77 km/h, far exceeding the manufacturer's limit of 20 km/h.
The officer pursued the 15-year-old on his motorcycle during the chase. Unfortunately, the teenager offered significant resistance, resulting in the officer sustaining minor injuries. The teenager also suffered minor injuries and was kept overnight in the hospital for observation.
Upon the teenager's arrest, it was discovered that the e-scooter lacked the necessary insurance coverage. The officer filed a complaint against the teenager for dangerous interference with traffic, illegal street racing, driving without a license, violating the compulsory insurance law, and resisting police officers.
