Holy Cross Ice Hockey Shines in 2024-2025 Season
The Holy Cross Ice Hockey program has had a successful 2024-2025 season, with both the men's and women's teams making waves in their respective conferences.
The men's hockey team, under the leadership of new head coach Bill Riga, has been on a roll. After defeating Sacred Heart in back-to-back games, they marked a third straight conference sweep. This impressive run extended their winning streak to 8 games before the final week of the regular season, where they finished with a record of 18-12-4, their best finish in eight years. They clinched the 2 seed for the playoffs and will host the first round over the March 8-10 weekend, boasting home ice advantage until the finals.
However, their winning streak came to an end in the final game of the regular season, with a 5-1 loss to Bentley. Despite this setback, the team has shown resilience, starting the season a little slowly but improving significantly throughout.
On the other hand, the women's hockey team, as the 10 seed, will face Boston University in their play-in game. They have had a challenging season, ending last in Hockey East, 11 points behind ninth place Merrimack. However, they have a strong record against Boston University, standing at 2-1 this year, their best record against any conference opponent.
The quarterfinals for both teams are scheduled for March 8th and 9th, with the potential for a game three on the 10th. The five teams receiving first round byes into the quarterfinals are RIT, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, Air Force, and AIC. AIC will play Air Force in the quarterfinals.
As the playoffs approach, both teams will be looking to build on their strengths and continue their impressive form. The 2024-2025 season has been a good one for Holy Cross Ice Hockey, and fans will be eager to see how both teams perform in the post-season.
